2020 has been the year of challenges, changes and checkpoints. We’re finding ourselves in situations we’ve never experienced and the final outcome is still unknown.

During this unusual time, we’ve had to be creative in finding ways to deal with stress and isolation. Here are four reasons why reading cozy mysteries can help us defeat the monotonous routines we’re stuck in.

We Need Escape

Cozy mysteries help us escape into comforting small communities with cuddly animals, fun people, and exciting adventures. While many book genres can be read for escape, cozy mysteries are one of the best. Who doesn’t want to get away from 2020 and disappear into one of those cute little villages for a few hours? Sure, there might be a murderer around town, but we can live with that if we shop at the cute stores and visit the café.

We Need to Read About Normal Life

We may or may not live in a small town in real life, but one thing is for sure – we can relate to what life was like when we had tea with friends, went shopping without masks, and hung out with our co-workers after hours. It’s nice to be reminded of what life was, and hopefully will be again soon.

We Have More Time to Fill

With isolation, reduced work hours, less driving, and no gatherings – we have more time on our hands now than ever. It can be easy to fall into a pattern of sleeping in, binge-watching our favourite shows, or scrolling too long on social media. Reading a cozy mystery gives us a break from the mundane, while still allowing us to keep our pajamas on.

We Need to Laugh and Feel Good

Cozy mysteries are witty, funny, and full of quirky characters and pets. Who doesn’t need an extra laugh nowadays? Reading cozies is a great way to loosen up and enjoy life.
