Get to Know Lisa Q. Mathews
What is more fun then finding a new author that you really enjoy? Lisa Q. Mathews was one of the new authors that I came across this summer that I will be continuing to follow. The newest book in Lisa’s Ladies Smythe and Westin Mystery Series, Fashionably Late, was just released in August and is a whole lot of fun. (My thoughts on it here).
I had the pleasure of helping Lisa host a Facebook Party to celebrate this book. There was lots of great discussion and I wanted to share some highlights from Lisa with you today.
Where did you get the idea for this series?
From observing a lot of characters at my parents’ retirement community. It was very fancy but my dad never wanted to move there. I dedicated the first book, Cardiac Arrest, to him.
Is there a author or book that you love?
I love all my fellow cozy authors (really!) I also enjoy Janet Evanovich and especially Carl Hiaasen. I like zany, bumbling villains.
Tell us a little more about editing Nancy Drew books. Did you read them as a child?
I read all the Nancy Drew and other kid detective books I found in my summer camp library. At the time I had no idea it would be my job to edit them! And I was surprised to end up working with “Carolyn Keene.”
Have you always liked mysteries? If so did anything in your childhood foster your love of mysteries?
I’ve always loved them. I started with the Bobbsey Twins (and later edited them, too, at the same job as the Nancy Drew.)
