Get to Know Esme Addison

Guest Post by author Esme Addison.

Can you tell us a little more about yourself?

Of course! I have a BA in English and Marketing, and a professional background in marketing communications and technical writing. I have three sons, and as a military spouse has lived in New York, Virginia, North Carolina (twice) and Okinawa, Japan. When I’m not reading or writing, my favorite pastime is traveling to learn, see and do new things.

This book is a cozy mystery with a sci-fi twist. Can you tell us more about the book?

Love too. I really am a speculative writer at heart and I love cozy mysteries. So when I created my first idea for a cozy, I knew it had to have a twist to it. A Spell For Trouble is based on the Polish Mermaid of Warsaw myth. After her father dies (her mother passed when she was little) and she quits her job, Alex Daniels travels to Bellamy Bay, NC from NYC to reconnect with her aunt and two cousins. While there she discovers an interesting secret in her family about her heritage. And then there’s a murder… her aunt is charged, and she of course has to figure out whodunnit.

What has been your favorite part about writing cozy mysteries thus far?

I really enjoy creating the world of the series with a beautiful small community filled with cozy pun-tastic businesses, interesting people and a mystery that has to be solved. And the history! I love an interesting backstory that provides a complex, rich history for the series.

What was your inspiration for this book?

I was inspired by my Polish in-laws’ culture and history, especially the mythology. But also the food! Expect lots of good Polish food!

What do you have coming up / where can readers keep up with you?

Book Two in the series publishes next summer! July 2021. You can subscribe to my newsletter at or follow me @EsmeAddison  on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Bookbub and Goodreads!
